DANNY McGuire admits Super League – and the cost of living crisis – is making things extra hard for Toulouse to survive.

But the interim Hull KR chief still wants to make things even tougher by guiding his side to victory.

Danny McGuire believes the rugby league system in Britain is not helping Toulouse grow in Super LeagueSWPIX.COM

Olympique currently stand two points adrift at the bottom with six matches remaining, with many people saying they should have at least a year’s grace from relegation.

And McGuire believes the British system does little for Sylvain Houles’ men, nor does the way bills are rocketing on this side of the Channel.

He said: “I have a bit of sympathy. If I’m honest, I don’t think we make it easy for them.

“I’m all for trying things in new areas and Catalans have been a success but for Toulouse to be successful, it’s going to need a few more years.

“That means more investment, more time – we don’t make it easy for them to see the longer-term picture.

“Relegation is built into our culture – without relegation it’s not really British sport – but I’d have no issue if they had a period to adjust and adapt.

“That can help them develop their own players because I think that’s the only way they’re going to be successful. Chopping and changing isn’t a good model for them.

“For them to come up and expect them to adjust and adapt in a year, is a really big challenge. I’m keen for them to do well as it’s good for the game to have another French team in Super League.

“Toulouse is a huge city and friends went to Toulouse to watch Leeds there – but times are tough and not many fans have the spare cash to watch their team there.

“That makes things tougher for Toulouse as well!”

McGuire welcomes back several older heads for tonight’s clash but youngster Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e is set to start at full back.

And the 19-year-old admits dad Quentin, who still plays at Sheffield, passes on ips on how he should play.

He said: “Dad gives me advice every day, he watches training and games and it’s good to give me specific advice.

“I ask him for tips. I’m still living with him so I can’t escape it!”
